A large sculptural plate crafted from fireclay, shaped by hand into a “priest’s hat” form on the potter’s wheel. The rim is adorned with geometric reliefs, spherical motifs, and Renaissance-inspired bas-relief decorations, all meticulously handcrafted. This piece is a singular expression of Maestro Mengoni’s unparalleled mastery of the ‘abborchiato’ embossing technique. The plate is further enhanced with a luminous finish of pure 24kt gold, applied using the terzo fuoco (third firing) technique. Its surface undergoes a manual antiquing process using a secret natural blend enriched with sandalwood ash. The artist’s signature is engraved into the clay on the visible surface of the plate.
